Ripe for Reinvention

It’s interesting how much your perspectives and even long-held beliefs can change when you put yourself in a totally new, unknown scenario and environment. At first, it can feel like your heart is outside of your body and your brain scanning for the exit signs.

Then, little by little, your senses begin to settle and pick up on the newness all around you. As you fully open yourself up to the experience and let it wash over you, the bubble you were in before, that seemed like the only way to exist, appears separate from you, away from you. As you engage further and settle into your new reality, looking back offers a new perspective on the old. One you can learn and grow from.

Think about the jobs you have held, the people you have worked with and for, the relationships you have had with friends, family, and partners, and the personal and professional challenges you have endured. When you are “in it”, the good and the bad can be all consuming, like the walls are growing taller and the space getting smaller. Yet at the same time, being “in it” can feel normal and be misconstrued as your everything or even the only reality that is possible.

When we start to get super comfortable, complacent, or begin to feel like there is no other way, we are ripe for reinventing ourselves, our jobs, and our relationships, especially when we feel stuck. You know that feeling, that inner voice emerging with questions like, “Is this really ok?”  “Am I ok with what we are doing, how we are doing it, my involvement in it?”  We have the power to make our reality better, to not accept what is stifling and repressive.

Reinventing can happen in existing environments, and sometimes you need to travel to an entirely new planet.  You’ll need to pack your courage, grit, and determination friends along for this journey.  When you’ve landed in your new reality and look back at the bubble you were in, don’t forget to celebrate your commitment and follow through, taking action to create and place yourself into something previously unimaginable. Remember, the possibilities for reinvention are endless.
