“Truly, for some men nothing is written unless they write it,” said Sharif Ali in the film, Lawrence of Arabia.
A very wise person in my life recently offered this famous quote to me, reminding me to stay present and be open to, but also command, whatever is next. None of our actions are written or true unless we do them. We can sometimes get ahead of ourselves from the inertia of positive or negative things pushing and pulling us forward. We can forget that until these things actually take place in physical reality, they haven't happened at all. It’s so easy sometimes to step back, release the reins, and let someone or something else take ownership of our story, but it’s our duty to take ownership. We owe that to ourselves and those around us.
I am a constant student of presence and agency. I continually work on taking charge of being in the present, returning back to the present, and creating awareness for when and how to do this for myself and others. I love how I continue learning different ways and perspectives, like from this quote, of seeing and demonstrating these practices.
